Krok Investigation

During fall 2017, the children built, painted, and named a red giant they called Krok. As the months passed, Krok’s family grew, and the three creatures became the focal point of a wide-ranging, special investigation that spanned ideas of self, family, and community, caretaking, accessibility, the body, and the brain. As an interest in boats and fishing took shape, the final stage of the investigation evolved into preparation for a fishing trip for Krok and his family.

Coral Reef Investigation

The Purple Room's 2015-2016 coral reef investigation originated in the children’s interest and curiosity in many unique types of animals. The children were particularly fascinated by all the different sea creatures that existed and how they lived with one another, and so we chose to study the coral reef. Each child made a sea creature and helped to make the coral habitat for their creatures.

Space Investigation

Space Investigation

The Space Investigation stemmed from the common interests of the Blue Room and the Green Room. Together the classrooms embarked on a variety of projects surrounding ideas of space, from studying the solar system and learning about rocket ships and concepts such as how things move through space. From March through May 2016 we studied planets, built them, and engaged in dramatic space play.
