Coral Reef Investigation

The Purple Room's coral reef investigation originally began when the children expressed interest and curiosity in animals. Coral reefs seemed like a perfect opportunity to talk about habitats, relationships between different living things, and diversity. The children were fascinated by all the different sea creatures that existed. To create our own coral reef, each child chose a sea creature to make out of materials, and the children worked on constructing brightly colored coral to serve as a habitat for the other organisms. We also took a trip to the New York Aquarium to further our research and to find out more information about the different way sea creatures move and their relationships with one another.
