PROGRAM - back to home

OUR APPROACH

We believe that all children have the desire, ability, and motivation to learn.  At

RHP, we seek to nurture these natural impulses by providing a supportive,

stimulating, and challenging environment for learning.  We get to know each

child as an individual, and give them the opportunity to follow their instincts

and direct their learning.  At the same time, we provide the structure, guidance,

and challenges that children need to thrive.

We believe that the aesthetics of the space are important.  Children are drawn

to beautiful things, and are inspired by their beauty.  Our classrooms are set up

to provide a structured, consistent, and inspirational base for learning.  Each of

our three classrooms have subject-specific shelves, filled with multi-leveled

materials.  Through hands on work with these materials, children develop their

knowledge of language, math, fine motor, artistic, scientific and sensorial

concepts.  Through observation, discussion, and work with the children, the

teachers develop an understanding of them.  The interplay of these classroom

relationships fosters each child’s unique development.

OUR DAY - back to Program | back to home

The Morning

Mornings at RHP begin with our drop-off period, which is between 8:30 and

8:45 am.  A teacher greets the children at the cubbies, helps them say goodbye

to their caregiver, and escorts them to their classroom.  The morning activities

consist of group meetings, a trip to Mother Cabrini playground, and an open

work time.  During open work time children choose the materials they want to

use from the shelves and work with them alone, with a friend or group of

friends, and/or with a teacher.  Our open work time gives children an

opportunity to have successful experiences of independence and self-guided

learning.  On some mornings, children also have one of our “special classes”

(art, music, dance, or science), which are group lessons led by a teacher.

Lunch & Rest

Children eat lunch from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, and rest from 1:00 – 2:15 pm.

The Afternoon

At 2:30 pm the children come together for a meeting, to stretch and prepare

for the afternoon’s activities.  The afternoon activity is usually a special class

or another whole-group activity led by a teacher.  On occasion, there will be

a short open-work time.  Children are picked up from school between 3:15

and 3:30 pm.  During thei time we have our “Goodbye Meeting,” and sing

songs, read stories, and talk about events of the day.

The Extended Day

RHP offers an extended day program available Mondays – Thursdays, from

3:30 pm – 6:00 pm.  Spots are limited and available on a first come, first served

basis.  Our extended day program consists of neighborhood walks, snack time,

and group activities.
